    Why the birds picture?

    Those are a set of taxidermied Heath Hens.

    Heath hens are an extinct species now and the last one, known to be alive, was seen on the island.

    That display is at the Tisbury Elementary school. When I was a kid going there I used to wonder about them and it became a strange memory for me I guess.

    One day recently a friend, Becky Cournoyer, snapped that photo and sent it to me when I asked if they still had that display at the school.

    I will leave it up to the reader to form their own opinions as to the reason for the picture being on the board.
