New York man arrested on drug charge in Tisbury

Well, believe it or not, there are people, right here on MV, who conduct business by cash to avoid declaring all their earned income when it comes to tax time.  Repeated cash transactions over $1000 are suspect because most people use banks to keep their money safe and to keep a good record on paper of what comes in and what goes out. It isn't necessarily drug money, a cash-only business, either.  There are bosses who pay their employees under the table, landlords who wish to avoid declaring their earned rental income, waiters who get cash tips, and home repair people who insist on getting paid in cash.  Who does not have a checking account?  The only people I can think of either cannot get one because they don't have a social security number or because they had so many overdrafts no bank will give them an account. Or else they do not want a paper trail of their income. You may be the exception as to why people legitimately do not pay their monthly bills from a bank account, either with a check, a debit or credit card, or online.  Where and how you got the cash to pay your rent is not my business. You and I both have no idea if your landlord declared the cash rent as earned income to the IRS.

    Please supply evidence of that.

If you don't like my explanation of why repeated and large cash transactions are a red flag, speak to the IRS. I am sure they would be happy to fill in the blanks for you.
And by the way, mortgage bills, utility bills, etc, all have a form telling you not to send cash.  If I had been receiving drug money for rent, I'd feel more than a little bad about it.

Didn't the town recently tell the Scottish bakehouse they couldn't put up an "Open" sign?  Perhaps they should have put up a sign saying: "We love your money, come on in."
